Azerbaijan expects Joint Commission to boost Saudi ties, official says

Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov has expressed hope that the ninth meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation, scheduled to be held this year, will make a significant contribution to the development and expansion of cooperation with Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at an event marking the 96th anniversary of the National Day of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, he said the two countries intend to continue joint efforts to further develop cooperation in the economy, trade, industry, investment, alternative and renewable energy, transport, tourism and other areas, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

“In this context, the Joint Commission on Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia plays an important role in deepening ties between our countries across various fields,” he noted.

According to Sharifov, preparations are currently underway for the next meeting of the Joint Commission.

He stressed that Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to its relations with Saudi Arabia, with which the country shares common linguistic and cultural roots.

In his words, since February 2026, Saudi citizens holding ordinary passports have been able to visit Azerbaijan visa-free for one year.

“We are fully ready for more active practical efforts to expand mutual travel,” he added.

The deputy prime minister further stated that confidence that interstate relations and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia, based on the shared values and brotherhood of the two peoples, would continue to develop and strengthen at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
