Azerbaijani deputy defence chief visits Pakistan's special service group

The delegation led by the First Deputy Minister of Defence – Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, Colonel General Karim Valiyev has visited Pakistan's Special Service Group (SSG) division.

Valiyev made the tour as part of his official visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Defence Ministry.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Special Service Group (SSG) gave the delegation detailed information about the division's assignment and training process. It was noted that the personnel of the division involves the special forces and mainly deals with counter-terrorism, detection of necessary targets, the release of hostages, information, psychological and a number of other special operations.

Then the training area of the SSG was introduced, the weapons and equipment at the disposal of the division, as well as other military means, were shown to the delegation.

In the end, Colonel General K. Valiyev signed the "Book of Honor" of the SSG division.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr. Khazar Farhadov also participated in the meeting.

During the 44-day war with Armenia in 2020, Pakistan was among the first countries to voice political support for Azerbaijan. Pakistan also supports Azerbaijan in the restoration of the country's liberated territories.

In September 2021, the Azerbaijani, Turkish and Pakistani special forces conducted joint international drills in Baku, codenamed Three Brothers - 2021.

Under the drills plan, the special forces units carried out practical shootings using small arms and grenade launchers, the report added.

Furthermore, the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Pakistan signed the Baku Declaration on cooperation. The document was signed following the trilateral meeting held by speakers of the three countries’ parliaments on July 27, 2021.
