Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan focus on interparliamentary cooperation

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have discussed expanding parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkmenistan has said.

The embassy noted that, during the talks, the sides – Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Gismat Gozalov and Deputy Chairman of the Turkmen Parliament Gahraman Roziyev, Chairman of the Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group Annamuhammet Sarcjayev highlighted the successful development of fraternal relations and strategic partnership across various fields, Caliber.Az reports.

The sides stated that the historical, cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious ties between the two peoples provide a strong foundation for bilateral relations.

The participants described the recent momentum in Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan ties as positive, highlighting President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Turkmenistan in 2025, visits to Azerbaijan by National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and other high-level contacts between the two countries.

Particular attention was paid to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s state visit to Azerbaijan on June 22–23.

The sides stressed that the Joint Statement signed by the two presidents, along with other agreements covering various areas of cooperation, would help further expand the legal framework governing bilateral ties.

The meeting also focused on the current state and prospects of interparliamentary cooperation.

According to the officials, more frequent mutual visits, meetings and direct contacts between parliamentary speakers and MPs, as well as interparliamentary friendship groups, would contribute to strengthening relations.

They also discussed cooperation between the Azerbaijani and Turkmen parliaments through regional and international parliamentary platforms, the continuation of consultations and mutual support, as well as other issues of mutual interest.
