Defense Mirror: Turkish “Mosquito” loitering munition spotted in Azerbaijani army

The Turkish SİVRİSİNEK (“Mosquito”) loitering munition, developed by Baykar and capable of operating at a range of up to 1,000 kilometres, has been spotted in service with the Azerbaijani Army, Caliber.Az reports, citing Defense Mirror.

SİVRİSİNEK is a new-generation loitering munition developed by Turkish defence company Baykar. The system was first demonstrated during swarm-flight tests conducted at the Flight Training and Test Centre in Edirne in April 2026, together with K2 kamikaze UAVs, and was subsequently unveiled to the public at SAHA EXPO in May 2026.

Powered by AI-based swarm autonomy, the system allows multiple SİVRİSİNEK platforms to operate with uninterrupted communication while exchanging information about detected targets.

During the April demonstration flight, 10 SİVRİSİNEK drones formed a swarm beneath K2 kamikaze UAVs and dived toward designated coordinates. The system also demonstrated its ability to position itself and detect targets using AI-based visual navigation software even in the absence of, or under conditions of, GNSS (global navigation satellite system) signal disruption or jamming.

The system’s range gives Azerbaijan significant deep-strike capabilities on a regional scale. Its deployment in a strategically important region such as Nakhchivan further increases the significance of these capabilities.
