Polish Army to receive South Korean Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers in August

The Polish army will receive South Korea's first K239 Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers in August, the Polish Defence Ministry said on Twitter.

"Thanks to cooperation with South Korea, the first Chunmoo artillery systems with a range of up to 300 km will be at the disposal of the Polish army this August," Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said.

Under the terms of the contract signed with South Korea in 2022, Poland will receive 288 Chunmoo launchers, the first 18 of which, integrated with Polish Jelcz trucks, will be delivered together with ammunition. Poland will also receive high-precision missiles with a range of up to 70 km and tactical missiles with a range of about 300 km.

The K239 Chunmoo is a rocket artillery system developed in 2013 to replace the ageing K136 Kooryong of the South Korean military. The system is a self-propelled multiple rocket launcher (MRL) capable of firing several different guided or unguided artillery rockets. The K239 is capable of launching K33 131 mm rockets, but not 130 mm rockets (such as the K30, K37 and K38), which are used in the existing K136 Kooryong rocket artillery system.
