90 aftershocks occur in Hatay following recent earthquake
After an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 that occurred on the evening of February 20 in the Defne region of Hatay province in southern Türkiye, 90 aftershocks were recorded, the strongest of which was 5.8.
The announcement came from the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) on February 21, per Anadolu.
AFAD search and rescue teams were dispatched to Hatay, Afyonkarahisar, Izmir, Istanbul, Sakarya, Erzurum, Samsun, Diyarbakir, Adana, Van, Kayseri, Denizli, Balıkesir, Artvin, Bartın and Usak, as well as the Rescue Service 112, Fire Brigade, Gendarmerie (JAK), Police (PAK), General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Centers (CEKUT) and NGOs were sent to the disaster zone.
According to the Turkish Emergency Coordination Center (SAKOM), the earthquake killed 6 people and injured 294 others, including 18 with serious injuries.
