Airspace over Qatar and UAE remains restricted despite ceasefire — source

08 April 2026 09:14

Airspace restrictions over Qatar and the United Arab Emirates remain in force despite a reported agreement on a temporary ceasefire, a source in Middle Eastern air traffic control circles told TASS.

According to the source, the limitations—introduced amid the military operation by the United States and Israel against Iran—have not yet been lifted.

“The restrictions remain in place, and no information about their cancellation has been received so far,” the source said.

The source added that aircraft are currently not transiting through Qatari and Emirati airspace to third countries. In the UAE, six designated corridors for civil aviation flights have been established from neighbouring Oman and Saudi Arabia, while Qatar has allocated two such routes.

Partial airspace closure in the UAE is expected to remain in effect until April 13, while restrictions in Qatar are set to continue until April 23.

Earlier, another TASS source reported that UAE aviation authorities had warned foreign carriers of potential operational risks. Airlines are required to obtain official clearance from the civil aviation regulator by submitting a risk assessment prior to operating flights.

The requirement does not apply to private, medical, or state aviation flights, the source noted, adding that the current procedure is expected to remain in place until approximately May 7.
