Al Arabiya: Qatari embassy staff killed in traffic accident in Egypt
Three staff members of the Qatari Embassy in Cairo were killed and another three injured in a car accident near Sharm El-Sheikh on the evening of October 11.
A source told Al Arabiya that the crash was caused by high speed and a tire blowout in the vehicle transporting the staff from Cairo. The accident occurred on a tunnel road in the Al-Tur area, about 50 km from Sharm El-Sheikh.
The deceased were not diplomats and were not involved in Gaza negotiations. Their mission was related to logistical preparation for the Qatari delegation’s visit to the signing ceremony of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, scheduled for Monday.
The injured staff members are in the hospital: one is in stable condition, another is undergoing surgery, and the third is being examined. Egypt and Qatar are coordinating the transfer of the bodies to Doha. A security team has been formed to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
