Amsterdam court seizes assets of Russian pipeline operator
The Amsterdam District Court has seized the assets of South Stream Transport (SST), the operator of the Turkish Stream pipeline and a subsidiary of Russia’s Gazprom, following a legal action by Ukrainian billionaire Rinat Akhmetov’s energy company, DTEK Krymenergo.
The case stems from a 2023 ruling by a court in The Hague, which ordered Russia to compensate Akhmetov’s company for losses incurred after the expropriation of Crimean assets following Russia’s annexation of the peninsula, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
In July 2025, DTEK applied to the Amsterdam District Court to seize SST’s assets held in accounts at ABN Amro Bank in the Netherlands, seeking to secure claims awarded in the Hague arbitration.
In August 2025, SST petitioned the Amsterdam court to lift the seizure or impose sanctions on DTEK if the assets were not returned. The court rejected SST’s request, allowing the seizure to proceed.
