AP: US repositions naval assets in Middle East after Israeli strikes on Iran

The U.S. is moving military assets in the Middle East as a precaution following Israel’s airstrikes on Iran, with concerns that Tehran may retaliate, according to two U.S. officials, cited by AP.

The Navy has ordered the destroyer USS Thomas Hudner to sail toward the Eastern Mediterranean. A second destroyer has also been directed to reposition, ensuring it is available if the White House decides to deploy it.

One official mentioned that President Trump is assembling his National Security Council principals this weekend to evaluate the situation and determine the next steps.

The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to provide details not yet made public.
