Typhoon Danas hits Taiwan, injuring at least 28
At least 28 people have been injured as Typhoon Danas swept across southwestern Taiwan, the country's Emergency Operations Centre has said.
The typhoon made landfall around 11:40 p.m. local time on July 6 (7:40 p.m. Baku time), bringing powerful winds reaching level 14 on the Beaufort scale, Caliber.Az reports, citing Taiwanese media.
Authorities evacuated more than 2,800 residents from affected counties and cities due to the storm’s intensity. In addition to the reported injuries, widespread power outages were recorded—approximately 495,000 households lost electricity, with over 388,000 still waiting for service to be restored as of the latest update.
Severe weather conditions also disrupted Taiwan’s high-speed rail network. Three trains were stranded overnight after losing power, and passengers were only able to reach their destinations by the following morning, according to CNA.
Emergency crews continue to work to restore services and assess damage in the wake of the storm.
