Bloomberg: Ukraine considers replacing its ambassador to US
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has discussed replacing the country’s ambassador to the United States during a phone call with President Donald Trump on July 4, sources familiar with the matter revealed.
Among the candidates under consideration are Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, Defence Minister Rustem Umerov, and Energy Minister German Galushchenko, the source told Bloomberg on condition of anonymity due to the confidentiality of the discussions, Caliber.Az cites.
The potential change comes at a tense time in Ukraine-US relations. Last week, the Trump administration unexpectedly halted the transfer of artillery rounds and air defence equipment to Ukraine, surprising Kyiv and its allies.
President Trump’s attempts to broker peace with Moscow have yet to yield results, as the war in Ukraine enters its fourth year. Russian forces continue to launch heavy drone and missile attacks on Kyiv and other cities.
The source confirmed that Zelenskyy has instructed his Foreign Ministry “to discuss the appointment of Ukraine’s next ambassador with the US side,” signaling an intent to recalibrate diplomatic representation amid the challenges.
