Argentina appoints new president

President-elect of Argentina Javier Milei officially took office as head of state.

The ceremony took place at Casa Rosada in the centre of Buenos Aires - the official residence of the Argentine president, in front of which hundreds of supporters of the head of state gathered, according to La Nacion.

"Yes, I swear," said Milei, becoming the new head of state for four years.

The outgoing president, Alberto Fernandez, shook hands with Milei and congratulated him on the start of his presidency.

In addition, Milei emphasized upon taking office that today "a new era begins."
