Armenian opposition party launches joint political consultations over election dispute VIDEO
Armenia’s opposition “Prosperous Armenia” party says it is initiating consultations with other political forces to develop a unified agenda and coordinated action against the authorities following election-related decisions, party leader and businessman Gagik Tsarukyan said.
The party head said its legal team is reviewing possible avenues for appeals and court proceedings, while opposition groups seek to coordinate their response to what they describe as government actions affecting the electoral process, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
The Prosperous Armenia leadership said it aims to work with other political forces to develop a common platform and joint steps against what it called “repressive and unlawful actions of the authorities”.
According to Tsarukyan, following a recount, the party had secured parliamentary representation, but he alleged that authorities subsequently intervened by annulling results at two polling stations without ordering a repeat vote.
“However, the authorities decided to resort to ‘blatant raiding’ — they secretly convened a meeting of the Central Election Commission and annulled the election results at two polling stations without scheduling a re-vote, as required by the Electoral Code,” the statement said.
Tsarukyan said the party intended to continue its legal and political struggle, adding that it would “fight to the end and defend every voter’s vote”.
Separately, an opposition representative from the “Strong Armenia” bloc was reported to be present at the Central Election Commission building, while the bloc has also called for public action.
The “Strong Armenia” bloc has submitted a statement to the CEC demanding that the results of the parliamentary elections be declared invalid.
