Armenian parliament: possibility of ex-MOD minister and MPs arrests "not excluded"
The Chairman of Armenia’s National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, does not exclude the arrest of three members of parliament belonging to the oppositional "Hayastan" party.
Caliber.Az reports on this citing various Armenian media outlets, which wrote that the Attorney General, Anna Vardapetyan is intending to address the parliament with a request to arrest the Leader of the "Hayastan" party, former Defence Minister Seyran Oganyan as well two of his party members, Vahe Akopyan and Armen Charchyan.
Commenting on the probability of such a scenario, Chairman Simonyan responded that he does not have any official information on this and added that he also found out through the press on this. At the same time, he did not reject such a development.
"I do not exclude the scenario, in which people, who had trouble with the law during their time and who believe the parliamentary mandate is protecting them, will now be convinced of the opposite", he told journalists.
Caliber.Az recalls, that the Leader of the "Hayastan" party and former Defence Minister Seyran Oganyan has previously commented on the possibility of his arrest, saying that "anything can be expected from the current government". He further emphasized that he did not break the law during his time as minister.
