Four killed in Yak-18T aircraft crash near Russia's Kolomna
Four people have died following the crash of a Yak-18T light aircraft in the Moscow region, near the village of Panovo in the Kolomna urban district, the regional office of Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations confirmed to TASS.
“The crash of a Yak-18T light aircraft, followed by a fire, occurred in the Moscow region in a field near the village of Panovo in the Kolomna urban district,” the ministry reported. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties or damage on the ground.
The crash was reported at 1:38 p.m. Moscow time. Emergency response units arrived promptly and extinguished the resulting fire by 2:10 p.m., limiting it to an area of five square meters.
The aircraft had taken off from the Severka airfield. A total of 23 personnel and eight pieces of equipment were involved in the rescue and response operation.
Preliminary findings suggest that the crash was caused by engine failure. “According to preliminary information, the plane crashed due to a technical malfunction. Its engine failed,” an emergency services source told TASS.
