Armenian PM hits back at former president over election remarks
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has responded to recent remarks by former President Robert Kocharyan, stating that he can “only express sympathy” toward him.
Pashinyan made the remarks in response to Kocharyan’s comments about the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections and the possibility of political unrest, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“As for a coup, Armenia’s law enforcement and institutional systems are sufficiently established to suppress any such attempt at its inception. And if Robert Kocharyan has lost his sense of reality to the extent that he believes he can win elections in Armenia, I consider it pointless to comment further. I can only sympathize with him,” Pashinyan said.
Earlier, during a meeting with voters, Kocharyan stated that if the authorities “attempt to brazenly steal victory from us” in the parliamentary elections, “they will get a revolution.”
Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
