Azerbaijan: Foreign travellers begin four-day visit to Karabakh, East Zangazur

14 June 2023 12:16

The four-day visit to Karabakh and East Zangazur by world-renowned travellers has begun.

The delegation will follow the Aghdam-Tartar-Kalbajar-Lachin-Gubadli-Zangilan-Jabrayil-Fuzuli-Khojavand-Shusha road for four days, according to Report.

The delegation is organised by the world-renowned MTP (Most Traveled People) organisation representing the US, the UK, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Russia, Türkiye, Romania, the Philippines, Australia and Saint Lucia.

As part of their visit, the international travellers watched the process of mine clearance in liberated Aghdam

Some 35 travellers from 14 countries got acquainted with the mine clearance operations conducted by Azerbaijan's Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), APA reports.

They first familiarised themselves with the mine clearance operations in Aghdam and then watched the process of neutralizing the discovered mines in the village of Bash-Garvand of the Aghdam district.

The travellers will also inspect the destruction caused to Aghdam by Armenia during the occupation, and get acquainted with the construction works carried out after the liberation of Aghdam, as well as with the mine clearance operations. After Aghdam, the guests will go to the Talish and Sugovushan villages of the Tartar district.

They also visited the Sugovushan reservoir and acquainted with the construction works carried out in the village of Sugovushan.

In the past two years, teams from major international travel networks have visited Karabakh and East Zangazur seven times, including one visit in 2021, four in 2022 and two in 2023.

After the liberated of its lands from Armenia's decades-long occupation in the 2020 war, Azerbaijan used about 60 per cent of the funds worth $1.8 billion intended for construction, restoration, and reconstruction work in Karabakh and East Zangazur in the 2023 state, Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov said earlier.

"Reconstruction of liberated territories is our new mission, and President Ilham Aliyev has mobilised the people of Azerbaijan to implement this mission. That mission consists of the implementation of the Great Return program. As a result, these areas will also be reintegrated into the economy of Azerbaijan. The foundations of large projects are being laid in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, some of these projects have already been completed and put into use," he said.
