Azerbaijan-Georgia relations set to grow, says President Ilham Aliyev UPDATED
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence in the continued development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia during a joint press statement with Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze.
"We are confident that Georgia-Azerbaijan relations will continue to develop confidently from now on," President Aliyev said, Caliber.Az reports via state media.
Highlighting the strong diplomatic cooperation, the president noted: "We always support each other within all international organizations as well. As the Mr. Prime Minister noted, we have always supported, we support, and we will continue to support each other's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the inviolability of our borders."
President Aliyev also reflected on the historical ties between the two nations, saying: “Our historical ties serve as a strong foundation for interstate relations.” He emphasized that the Georgian and Azerbaijani peoples have shared centuries of friendship and brotherhood, which continue today. “Today, as two independent states, Azerbaijan and Georgia are developing confidently.”
On the evolving regional dynamics, the president stated: “Today, an entirely new situation is emerging in the South Caucasus, and the countries located in the region must not miss these opportunities. Unfortunately, peace, security, tranquility, and stability are being disrupted in various parts of the world today, resulting in bloody clashes, wars, suffering, and losses.”
He added: "A similar scene once existed in the South Caucasus as well. However, today the South Caucasus is already becoming a place of peace, tranquility, security, and cooperation."
Commenting on the purpose of his visit, he stated: "I am confident that my visit will provide a new impetus to the relations between the two brotherly countries." He added: "The issues we discussed today once again show that Azerbaijan and Georgia, as always, stand together."
On regional connectivity, President Aliyev pointed out: “Work is underway to expand transport corridors.” He further explained that the Middle Corridor, which passes through the territories of Azerbaijan and Georgia, serves as a major transport artery. “Additional efforts are being made, and will continue to be made, to expand it.”
