Azerbaijan's PM: Construction of Zangezur Corridor railway progresses rapidly
Construction of the Zangezur Corridor railway in Azerbaijan is advancing at an accelerated pace, Prime Minister Ali Asadov said during the 12th meeting of the Azerbaijan–Türkiye Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
Asadov noted that in its initial phase, the railway will have a capacity of 15 million tons, serving as a key artery of the Middle Corridor, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“It is worth highlighting that in August, the foundation of the Kars–Nakhchivan railway was laid. This railway forms part of the Zangezur Corridor and will serve Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and other countries along the route,” Asadov said.
For the record, the transport corridor will connect mainland Azerbaijan directly to its Nakhchivan exclave through southern Armenia’s Syunik province (Zangezur–ed.).
In August 2025, a U.S.-brokered agreement at the White House (mediated by the Trump administration) advanced the project, rebranding the Armenian section as the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP). It grants U.S.-linked consortia long-term development rights (99 years) for infrastructure, aiming for neutral operation.
