Azerbaijan moves to deepen links with global securities depositories

Azerbaijan is taking steps to strengthen the integration of its capital market with the global financial system through closer cooperation with international securities depositories Clearstream and Euroclear.

Elchin Alizada, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan’s National Depository Centre (NDC), and Mushfig Ahmadli, an adviser to the board chairman, held meetings with senior representatives of Clearstream and Euroclear on the sidelines of the PostTrade 360° 2026 event in Stockholm, the NDC said, Caliber.Az cites.

According to the NDC, the discussions focused on the progress and next steps toward opening accounts for the Azerbaijani depository institution with both international securities settlement systems.

The sides also reviewed technical requirements related to the NDC’s potential membership of Clearstream and Euroclear, including operational and technological integration, and exchanged views on the conditions that need to be met.

The NDC said greater connectivity with international depositories would help broaden local market participants’ access to international financial instruments.

The parties agreed to continue consultations and coordinate activities related to the account-opening and membership processes, according to the Azerbaijani institution.
