Azerbaijan, Ukraine seek to expand agricultural trade and investment

03 September 2026 12:47

Azerbaijan and Ukraine are looking to deepen agricultural cooperation, restore bilateral trade to its pre-war level of about $1 billion a year and attract Azerbaijani investment into Ukraine’s agricultural sector, according to Azerbaijani news agency Report.

The issues were discussed during a meeting between Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotskyi and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Ukraine Seymur Mardaliyev.

The two sides discussed ways to expand trade and develop new commercial opportunities, with Azerbaijan highlighting agriculture as a potentially key sector in efforts to return bilateral trade to its pre-war level.

Baku also proposed making greater use of Azerbaijan’s logistical infrastructure to facilitate Ukrainian agricultural exports not only to the Azerbaijani market but potentially onward to Central Asia and the Middle East.

“We are ready to work together with the Azerbaijani side on the practical implementation of such projects,” Vysotskyi said.

The officials also discussed preparations for the next meeting of the Azerbaijan-Ukraine Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation, which is scheduled to take place in late November.

Azerbaijan proposed using the commission as a platform for B2B meetings between companies from the two countries in specific sectors. It also suggested organising visits to Ukrainian regions so that potential Azerbaijani investors could examine investment opportunities and prospective projects on the ground.
