On April 17, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon.
The official statement regarding the meeting was released via the website of the Presidential Administration, per Caliber.Az.
During the high-level talks, both sides expressed satisfaction with the development of political relations between Azerbaijan and Slovenia. The recent political consultations held at the level of foreign ministers were highlighted as a positive step toward deepening bilateral engagement. President Aliyev underscored that Azerbaijan places special importance on strengthening ties with the countries of the Balkan region, including Slovenia.
The discussions included a focus on energy cooperation, with both sides noting Azerbaijan’s growing partnership with the Balkans in the energy sector. They exchanged views on future prospects in this area and agreed on the importance of expanding interaction between the business communities of the two countries to further boost trade and economic cooperation.
A central topic of the meeting was the Middle Corridor — the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route — which both sides acknowledged as a strategically important trade artery linking Europe and China. President Aliyev and Minister Fajon emphasized that the Middle Corridor holds strong potential to enhance connectivity and economic integration across a wide region, and creates favorable new opportunities for Slovenian companies in particular.
Within this context, prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijani and Slovenian ports were also discussed as part of broader infrastructure collaboration. The parties additionally exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their commitment to deepening bilateral relations across multiple spheres.
