Azerbaijani chess master to face Magnus Carlsen today
Azerbaijani chess player Shakhriyar Mammadyarov (currently world number 10) will play his final match today in the third round of the Champions Chess Tour online series organized by world champion Norwegian Magnus Carlsen.
Report informs, the 37-year-old grandmaster will face Carlsen in the 7th round of the Oslo Esports Cup.
In the first round, Mammadyarov defeated Le Quang Liem from Vietnam, and in the fifth and sixth rounds, the Azerbaijani chess player defeated Anish Giri and Jordan van Forest from the Netherlands. In the second, third and fourth rounds, the experienced chess player lost to Rameshbab Pragnanandha from India, Erik Hansen from Canada and Jan-Krzysztof Duda from Poland.
Mammadyarov, who has 8 points, is in 6th place. Carlsen shares 1-2 places with Pragnanandha with 12 points.
The prize fund of the tournament is 210 thousand US dollars.
