Azerbaijani president condoles over fatal quake in Morocco
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter to King Mohammed VI of Morocco.
In the letter, Ilham Aliyev expressed condolences to Mohammed VI and all Moroccan people in connection with numerous human casualties as a result of the earthquake, Caliber.Az reports per the president’s website.
"Your Majesty,
I am deeply shocked by the news of numerous human casualties and destruction as a result of the strong earthquake in Morocco.
In connection with this tragedy, on behalf of myself and the people of Azerbaijan, I express deep condolences to You, the families and relatives of the victims, the brotherly people of Morocco, and wish recovery to the wounded and injured.
Allah rehmet elasin!" the letter reads.
A magnitude 6.8 earthquake has hit Morocco, killing at least 630 people, injuring more than 320, damaging buildings and sending terrified residents fleeing their homes into the streets for safety.
Morocco’s state television reported the doubling of the death toll on the morning of September 9 from overnight, citing the Ministry of Interior. Of those injured, 51 were in a critical condition.
