President Aliyev: Azerbaijan, Iran expanding transport capabilities and infrastructure
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has highlighted expanding transport capabilities and infrastructure with neighbouring Iran.
During a joint press statement with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, the presidents reaffirmed the long-standing friendship and strong cooperation between their two nations, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
The “Our peoples have lived in friendship and brotherhood for centuries. Today, our interstate relations are developing on this strong foundation,” President Ilham Aliyev said during the joint press conference, highlighting the historical ties between Azerbaijan and Iran.
He emphasised that the official visit of President Pezeshkian reflected the elevated state of bilateral relations.
In his address, President Aliyev also discussed the importance of the countries' mutual support within international organisations, saying, "We (Azerbaijan and Iran) traditionally support each other within international organisations. We exchanged views on this today, and discussed frameworks for future cooperation."
Both leaders acknowledged their shared stance in key global forums, including the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
“We are always side by side within these international organisations,” President Aliyev noted, underscoring the alignment of both nations in promoting mutual interests on the global stage.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed the sentiments of his Azerbaijani counterpart, stressing the deep cultural, religious, and political ties between the two nations. "In this region, we share numerous commonalities in culture, religious beliefs, ideas, politics, and initiatives, and we take pride in these shared values," President Pezeshkian said during the press conference.
The Iranian President further emphasised his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, adding, "We will strive to continue our relations strongly. We can learn from each other’s experiences across many matters."
