Azerbaijani president discusses expansion of energy cooperation with Turkish energy minister
Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev met today with Türkiye's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, who is in Baku for the 11th Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and 3rd Green Energy Advisory Council Ministerial Meetings.
The discussions centred on the expansion of energy collaboration between the two nations, with a focus on hydrocarbons, electricity, and renewable energy, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Both parties highlighted the significant potential for future growth in their energy ties. They praised the ongoing collaboration between Azerbaijan's State Oil Company (SOCAR) and Türkiye’s Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) and BOTAŞ, underscoring the prospects for joint projects within Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and beyond.
Notably, the meeting addressed the topic of electricity exports, with SOCAR already having initiated sales to Türkiye. Additionally, the forthcoming signing of a key agreement between Azerbaijan's “AzerEnerji” OJSC and the Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEİAŞ) was discussed, which will facilitate the export of 75 megawatts of electricity from Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan region.
A memorandum of understanding is also set to be signed today between Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Georgia, and Bulgaria to enhance cooperation in the green energy sector, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable energy development.
