Belarus official calls UK's desire to deploy troops in Ukraine “madness”
Belarusian State Secretary of the Security Council, Alexander Volfovich, has criticised UK Defence Secretary John Healey’s proposal to send troops to Ukraine, calling it “madness” in remarks to Komsomolskaya Pravda — Belarus.
“This is madness. It is yet another madness of certain Western politicians. The UK is among the leaders stirring global tensions, thinking not about peace, but about war,” Volfovich said.
He added that such policies and statements often spark new conflicts around the world, resulting in loss of life, destroyed cities, and thousands of refugees.
“Now we hear statements from the UK leadership that they want to send troops to Ukraine. For what purpose? Will that stop the war, bring peace, and allow cities to be rebuilt so people can live normally? That’s what should be discussed. What’s needed there are builders, to restore what has been destroyed. Troops will only bring further tragedies, death, and suffering. Therefore, this is an utterly thoughtless statement that leaves one bewildered,” Volfovich said.
He also claimed that Ukraine’s leadership already owns property abroad and could leave the country at any time. According to Volfovich, neither Ukrainian nor EU leaders consider ordinary citizens, and military aid statements only serve to prolong the war and personal interests.
