Belarus says it notified Poland, Lithuania of approaching unidentified drones last night
Belarusian air defence forces informed their counterparts in Poland and Lithuania about the approach of unidentified aerial vehicles near their borders, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Belarusian Ministry of Defence.
Chief of the General Staff Pavel Muraveyko stated that the military exchanged information on the air and radar situation via available communication channels between 23:00 on September 9 and 04:00 on September 10.
Muraveyko noted that this coordination allowed the Polish side to respond quickly by deploying its own air defence forces to intercept the drones.
He added that Poland also informed Belarus about unidentified aerial objects approaching Belarusian territory.
According to Muraveyko, some of the “stray” drones were neutralised by Belarusian air defence forces.
The night of September 9-10 marked a significant escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war as a massive Russian drone and missile barrage on Ukraine spilled over into NATO member Poland's airspace, prompting the first-ever downing of Russian drones by a NATO ally. This unprecedented incursion, involving a "huge number" of Iranian-designed Shahed drones, has raised alarms across Europe, with Polish officials labeling it an "act of aggression" and invoking NATO consultations.
