Belarus to open embassy in North Korea by August 2026
Belarus plans to open an embassy in North Korea by August 1, 2026.
The decision was formalised in a decree signed by Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“The Council of Ministers’ decree ‘On the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’ was adopted in accordance with the President’s instructions, given following his official visit to the DPRK on 25–26 March 2026,” the Cabinet’s press service stated.
The announcement follows recent diplomatic engagement between Minsk and Pyongyang. On April 7, Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov received copies of credentials from North Korean Ambassador Chi Kyong Su. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their intention to expand bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko visited Pyongyang on March 25–26, where he held talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
