Bloomberg: Sweden sees possibility of Russian military attack against NATO

Sweden’s Defence Committee has warned that a military confrontation between Russia and NATO could begin sooner rather than later, Bloomberg reports.

The outlet said Sweden sees a possibility that Russia could, in the relatively near future, seek to test NATO’s cohesion and commitment to collective defence through some form of military attack.

According to the report’s authors, such a scenario would depend on the emergence of what they described as favourable political conditions for Moscow.

The experts also pointed to shifts in transatlantic relations, noting that US security policy has become less predictable and is increasingly accompanied by tougher rhetoric and a greater willingness to use military force unilaterally.
