Brussels keeps funding war, choosing arms over peace - Hungarian official
The Hungarian government has voiced strong opposition to the European Union’s proposed budget for 2028–2034, which includes €100 billion in support for Ukraine amid its ongoing conflict with Russia.
As reported by Caliber.Az, Balázs Orbán, political advisor and close aide to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, criticized the draft budget presented in Brussels, warning that it would force the EU into further debt to finance war rather than peace.
“Europe has run out of money, yet when it comes to war, €100 billion is always available,” Balázs Orbán wrote on Facebook.
He confirmed that the European Commission plans to allocate the sum in the next seven-year budget cycle to provide military aid to Ukraine.
In his view, the proposal would reduce Europe’s competitiveness, divert funds from border protection, and undermine financial support for families across EU member states.
“And this is just the beginning,” he warned, referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s earlier statement that Ukraine would need €1 trillion.
“Europe cannot recover from its economic, social, and security crises, while Brussels keeps funding war—choosing weapons over peace and debt over a competitive Europe,” Orbán concluded.
