Bus crash in Malaysia claims 15 lives, including 14 students, bus attendant VIDEO
A tragic bus accident on the East-West Highway (Jalan Raya Timur-Barat, JRTB) in Malaysia has claimed the lives of fourteen Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students and a bus attendant, officials confirmed.
The collision involved a bus carrying UPSI students and another vehicle, resulting in significant casualties, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon stated, “Out of the 15 victims who died, 13 passed away at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.”
She further detailed the victims’ profiles, saying, “The fatalities include 10 females and 5 males, and the deceased have been taken to the forensics department at Gerik Hospital.”
The accident left a total of 33 injured individuals, categorized by severity: “Seven in the red zone (critical), 20 in the yellow zone (moderate), and six in the green zone (minor),” Saidon added.
The current hospitalisation figures include “29 injured victims being treated at Gerik Hospital, four injured victims at Baling Hospital, and the 15 deceased victims at the Forensic unit of Gerik Hospital.”
Initial reports indicated that 48 people were involved in the crash, comprising 42 students, a bus driver, a bus attendant, and four occupants from the other vehicle. The collision occurred as both vehicles were traveling from Jeli towards Gerik; the bus overturned, while the car veered off into a ditch.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident amid efforts to assist the injured and support the families of the victims. The community mourns the devastating loss of young lives in this tragic incident.
