Cable theft causes major railway disruption in Czech Republic
Rail traffic in northeastern Czech Republic was severely disrupted after the theft of cables essential for railway operations brought dozens of trains to a standstill, the news portal Novinky reported.
The incident occurred on the evening of November 2 along the railway section between the cities of Olomouc and Ostrava, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded as services were suspended. Partial operations were restored after several hours, with full service expected to resume by November 3.
According to Czech police, three suspects have been detained in connection with the theft. Local media reported that the individuals allegedly cut and stole a significant amount of cabling used to control switches, signals, and other safety systems critical to train movement.
