Cambridge receives record £190 million donation from Chris Rokos
The University of Cambridge announced that it has received a donation of 190 million pounds ($250 million). As highlighted in the university’s press release, this is the largest single donation to a British university in modern history.
The statement specifies that the funds were provided by British billionaire Chris Rokos. The money will be used to establish the Rokos School of Public Administration, which will train “future leaders” in the field of international politics.
“I was fortunate to be given the opportunity of an education which transformed my life, and I would like to give something back to Britain. My hope is that, in time, the influence of the Rokos School of Government across the world becomes an important element of that soft power which has been a great asset to the UK,” said the hedge fund manager.
The previous record donation to Cambridge, amounting to £185 million in 2019, was made by American billionaire Stephen Schwarzman. That sum was then described as the largest donation to any university since the Renaissance.
