Central Asia could match Swiss living standards, says Uzbek official

20 May 2026 16:04

Central Asian countries could potentially reach living standards comparable to Switzerland, said Muzaffar Azamov, Head, E-commerce Association of Uzbekistan.

Speaking on the sidelines of an international PLUS Forum, Azamov said the region has the potential to achieve significant long-term economic progress if it adopts a coordinated trade policy.

He stressed that such cooperation would be essential for accelerating and systematizing development across Central Asia.

“In the long term, we could replicate the success of Switzerland, which, like our countries, is landlocked but has the highest standard of living and the highest GDP per capita. In other words, this is all possible and achievable,” Azamov said.

He added that coordinated regional policy-making could help unlock sustained economic growth and improve living standards across Central Asia.
