Children, healthcare workers among dozens killed in Sudan hospital strike
Over 40 people, including children and healthcare workers, were killed in an attack on a hospital in Sudan over the weekend, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced.
The assault targeted Al Mujlad Hospital in West Kordofan, situated near the frontline between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, who have been engaged in fierce clashes since the outbreak of conflict in April 2023, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“The attack caused extensive damage to the facility,” the WHO Sudan office reported, confirming that six children and five medical personnel lost their lives in the incident.
While refraining from attributing responsibility, Director-General Tedros emphatically called for an end to attacks on health infrastructure, underscoring the critical importance of protecting medical facilities amid ongoing hostilities.
Separately, the human rights organization Emergency Lawyers accused an army drone of striking the hospital on June 21. However, their statement on June 22 reported a lower death toll of nine victims.
