Colombia arrests Russian national wanted by US on terrorism charges
Colombian police have arrested a Russian citizen at Bogotá airport, wanted by the United States on suspicion of terrorist activity.
The detention of Denis Alimov was carried out by local law enforcement with support from Interpol, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media outlets.
According to a statement issued by the international agency, special investigators were deployed to the airport for monitoring as they suspected the Russian national could present travel documents pertaining to another identity in an attempt to avoid prosecution.
Alimov, who is being accused by US authorities of being involved in a plot to assassinate two high-profile European figures, was arrested upon arrival in the country.
Between October 2024 and March 2025, he reportedly transfered $60,000 for the hiring of mercenaries to carry out the killings while promising an additional $1.5 million for each murder.
Interpol confirmed that the suspect has been handed over to forces reporting to the Attorney General’s Office, and preparations for his extradition are underway.
