D-8 summit in Jakarta postponed amid Middle East war
A summit of eight major Muslim developing countries scheduled to take place in Jakarta next month has been postponed due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, Indonesian officials said.
The meeting was planned as a gathering of leaders of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, which brings together Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Senior Indonesian Foreign Ministry official Tri Tharyat said the summit had been delayed because of the conflict in the Middle East.
He added that a revised date for the conference has not yet been discussed.
The summit had originally been scheduled to take place in Jakarta from April 13 to April 15.
The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation was established in 1997 to strengthen economic collaboration among major Muslim-majority developing countries spanning Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Azerbaijan joined the organisation in 2025.
