Deadly explosion targets mine workers in southwest Pakistan ten killed
Ten mine workers were killed in a deadly attack on February 14 when their vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED) in the southwestern province of Balochistan, Pakistan.
The incident occurred in Harnai district, more than 160 kilometres from Quetta, the provincial capital, Caliber.Az reports, referencing foreign media.
According to senior government official Shahzad Zahri, the victims were travelling from their work site to the market when the blast occurred. Saleem Tareen, another official in the region, confirmed that the blast targeted the workers as they were en route for shopping.
“We are investigating the attack,” Tareen said, though no group has yet claimed responsibility. However, the Baloch Liberation Army, known for its deadly attacks against security forces and ethnic Punjabis in Balochistan, is often implicated in such incidents.
The attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in the volatile Balochistan province, which has long been the site of insurgent activity and ethnic tensions. Authorities continue to search for the perpetrators of devastating assault.
