Disgraced MEP Kaili sues Belgian police over violating her parliamentary immunity
Eva Kaili, the Greek MEP who is at the heart of a corruption scandal gripping the European Parliament, is suing the Belgian justice system for allegedly violating her parliamentary immunity.
As reported by Euronews, Kaili launched her case on September 19 in Brussels, accusing the Belgian police and secret services of this act. Two other MEPs involved in the scandal, Belgium's Marc Tarabella and Italy's Andrea Cozzolino, have launched similar lawsuits.
The publication recalls, that the three of them, as well as Kaili's domestic partner and former parliamentary assistant Francesco Giorgi and three-term socialist Pier Antonio Panzeri, are accused of having accepted hundreds of thousands of euros from Qatari and Moroccan officials in exchange for influencing the decision of the European Parliament.
Should the courts side with them regarding the violation of their rights then the entire corruption case against them, known as Qatargate, could collapse.
