Drone hits residential building near missile plant in Russia’s Orenburg PHOTO/VIDEO
A drone struck a multi-storey residential building in the Russian city of Orenburg, located near the Strela defence manufacturing plant involved in the production of cruise missiles and aircraft components for Sukhoi and MiG fighter jets.
The building, located at 42 Volgogradskaya Street, lies about four kilometres from Production Association Strela, Caliber.Az reports, citing ASTRA.
Orenburg region Governor Yevgeny Solntsev said the residential building was damaged during efforts to repel a drone attack.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, while information on possible casualties is being clarified.
ASTRA analysts said the drone was likely neutralised by electronic warfare systems, noting that footage from eyewitnesses suggested its original flight path may have been aimed at the strategic Strela facility.
Production Association Strela is part of the Tactical Missiles Corporation and manufactures supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles, primarily from the P-800 Oniks (Yakhont) family, as well as components for Vulkan, Bazalt, Malakhit, and BrahMos missiles — the latter jointly developed by Russia and India.
The plant also produces aviation pylons, weapons mounts, and other precision components for Su-30, Su-35, Su-34, and MiG fighter aircraft.
