The number of deaths from Ebola virus disease in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has risen to 88, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), a specialised agency of the African Union, as reported by TASS.
The statement said there are 336 suspected cases of infection in total. Earlier, health authorities reported 80 deaths and 246 confirmed cases. Another person died from Ebola three days ago in neighboring Uganda.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
According to the WHO classification, this represents the highest level of global alert. This status is reserved for the most dangerous and unpredictable epidemiological events and requires all countries to respond to the emerging threat.
