Egypt, Qatar convey US plan for Gaza to Hamas Group rejects concessions
Egypt and Qatar, acting as mediators between Israel and Hamas, have handed over to the negotiating delegation of the radical Palestinian movement a U.S. plan to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip, a diplomatic source has said.
“Qatar and Egypt delivered Trump’s plan to the Hamas negotiating group. The group promised the mediators that it would review the proposal presented by Trump some time ago,” the source noted, Caliber.Az reports, citing Al Jazeera.
After reviewing Trump’s Gaza proposal, Husam Badran, a member of the Hamas political bureau, said the group’s main and non-negotiable demand remains an immediate end to the war and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave. He stressed that this should be considered the “primary condition” for any further steps.
Badran noted that while Hamas is open to discussing various ideas and proposals, it will not compromise on its “national principles.” He added that resistance to occupation is a legitimate right of the Palestinian people under international law, including the use of armed force.
The peace proposal, formally unveiled by President Donald Trump during a White House meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the same day, outlines a comprehensive 20-point framework for an immediate ceasefire, hostage releases, and postwar reconstruction. Hamas officials pledged to review the document "in good faith" and provide a response within days, though they noted they had not been directly consulted prior to its presentation. Trump described the plan as a "landmark deal" with broad international support, warning that rejection by Hamas would grant Israel his "full backing" to "finish the job." Netanyahu echoed this, vowing to ensure Gaza "never again poses a threat to Israel."
Trump's proposal, often referred to as the "Trump 20-Point Plan" (though some reports cite 21 points), represents a significant evolution from his administration's earlier, more controversial ideas on Gaza.
