Egypt, Qatar deliver Trump’s Gaza ceasefire proposal to Hamas

30 September 2025 15:32

Egypt and Qatar have officially delivered a ceasefire proposal from US President Donald Trump to Hamas, as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the war in Gaza.

The American proposal was handed to the Palestinian group during active discussions facilitated by the two regional mediators. The Egyptian security source said that Hamas is "reviewing the proposal positively and objectively," Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.

Earlier on September 29, President Trump outlined the key components of his ceasefire initiative during a joint press conference in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The proposal includes the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza and the full disarmament of Hamas.

Trump stated that the plan was designed to offer “a path to end the war and secure peace for both Israelis and Palestinians,” while emphasizing the importance of cooperation from regional partners in its execution. Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed support for the framework, though he did not elaborate on Israel’s intended course of action.

Throughout the ongoing conflict, Egypt and Qatar have played a pivotal role as mediators, often facilitating indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel. Both nations have previously brokered temporary truces and humanitarian pauses aimed at alleviating the crisis.

As of now, Hamas has not issued a formal response to the proposal.

The humanitarian toll in Gaza continues to draw international alarm. The United Nations and multiple international aid organizations have consistently warned of the catastrophic situation on the ground. They have stressed that any viable ceasefire must include provisions for the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid and robust support for post-conflict reconstruction.

Whether Trump’s initiative can bridge the entrenched divisions remains uncertain. Israel maintains a firm stance on the complete disarmament of Hamas, while the group has historically rejected terms it perceives as undermining its resistance.
