Egyptian intel chief visits Israel to discuss Gaza agreement's next phase
Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Mahmoud Rashad arrived in Israel early on October 21 to hold high-level discussions with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior Israeli officials regarding the Gaza agreement.
According to Israeli media, the talks focused on the transition to the second phase of the plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Rashad also met with David Zini, director of Israel’s Shin Bet (Shabak) internal security service, and other senior Israeli representatives to coordinate the implementation of the next stage of the Gaza plan.
Also, Rashad is scheduled to meet with U.S. Middle East special envoy Steve Witkoff.
Earlier, U.S. officials — including Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, and Witkoff — arrived in Israel to discuss the transition, while U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance landed today to join the discussions.
Immediately after arriving, Vice President Vance is expected to visit the U.S. headquarters in Kiryat Gat, where approximately 200 troops tasked with implementing the security agreement between Israel, Egypt, and the United States are stationed.
