Energy crisis: will schools in Kyrgyzstan close for the winter?
Rumours are circulating on social media that schools in Kyrgyzstan are reducing lessons and temporarily shutting extracurricular clubs due to an electricity shortage.
It was claimed that lights could not be turned on after 6:00 p.m. Another version suggested that schools might close for nearly the entire winter, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
The Ministry of Education of Kyrgyzstan stated that energy-saving measures are indeed being introduced in schools in accordance with a government decree on conservation.
Specifically, electricity must be turned off no later than 60 minutes after the end of classes (including time for classroom cleaning).
These restrictions do not apply to engineering systems and equipment in schools, nor to the electricity supply for dormitories.
The Bishkek city administration confirmed that reports of school closures due to the energy crisis are false.
“Educational activities are proceeding as normal: no classes, clubs, or extracurricular activities are being reduced or cancelled,” the administration said.
