Energy shock: Diesel costs in Thailand climb over 50% in 30 days
Retail diesel prices in Thailand have risen more than 50% over the past month, following the start of US and Israeli military operations against Iran.
In Bangkok, diesel blended with palm oil at Bangchak petrol stations jumped from 29.94 baht ($0.92) to 50.59 baht ($1.55) per liter over the last month, including a 2.8‑baht ($0.09) increase in a single day, Caliber.Az reports per TASS.
Premium high‑cetane diesel climbed to 70.94 baht ($2.17). The latest price hike follows the Thai Fuel Oil Fund Management Committee’s decision to further cut subsidies amid global oil market volatility.
Ethanol‑blended gasohol and regular gasoline prices remained unchanged on April 5, though they have risen 35–40% over the month. All fuel types remain available at Bangkok stations, with no queues reported.
Rising costs have prompted Thai postal operators to introduce a temporary 3‑baht ($0.09) surcharge, which will be lifted once fuel prices fall. The Kingdom’s Energy Regulatory Commission also announced that electricity tariffs will increase by 1.8% from May through August.
