Estonia pushes for Ukraine’s future NATO membership amid ongoing conflict
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has called for Ukraine to join NATO, describing membership as a “truly functioning and effective” guarantee of the country’s security. However, he stressed that such a development is “not possible right now” and could only be considered “in the future.”
Speaking to the press, Tsahkna also urged the international community to provide Ukraine with a two-year loan of around €90 billion, funded from frozen Russian assets, and to expedite the preparation of a 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
His comments come against the backdrop of ongoing peace proposals aimed at resolving the conflict, which envisage that Ukraine would not immediately join NATO. Under these plans, the alliance would commit not to expand or extend an invitation to Kyiv, while offering alternative security assurances.
