EU officials seek to remove Ursula von der Leyen
High-ranking officials of the European Union (EU) want to get rid of the President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, due to her "toxicity."
Von der Leyen's resignation could "unlock many processes" within the EU, as her policies have led to a political crisis and heightened tensions not only with Russia, but also with China and the United States, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Swiss publication Die Weltwoche.
At the same time, the situation within the EU is also tense, particularly due to pressure on Hungary, which "insists on its sovereignty."
"To the west — a trade dispute with the US, to the east — the conflict in Ukraine and the worsening relations with Russia, plus the ongoing, not too promising confrontation with China. The fish rots from the head," the article states.
Von der Leyen secured a second term as Commission President in June 2024, following a deal among centrist EU leaders, including France's Emmanuel Macron and Germany's Olaf Scholz.
